Window docking gives you the ability to place your application windows in specific areas of the screen, according to zone patterns predefined by Windows.
This allows you to quickly rearrange the layout of your windows on your screen.

Keyboard shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts for docking a window:
For layouts, half, quarter and full screen:
- Press the Windows logo+ arrows (←↑→↓)

New shortcut in Windows 11:
For layouts, 1/3 screen and half screen (top/bottom): Windows logo+ Alt + the arrows (←↑→↓)

For the new provisions on Windows 11:
- Press the Windows logo+ Z to open the window dock, move with the right arrow → then the arrow keys on the keyboard to choose the layout and position the window in the desired location.
- Confirm the layout with the Enter key then use the up ↑ and down ↓ arrows as required to select the desired window in the layout then confirm with Enter each time.

Disable/enable or modify anchor behaviour.

To do this, open Settings (Windows logo+ I), or right-click on the start menu then Settings and navigate to Settings/System/Multitasking

Or, use the Settings shortcut by specifying the following value in the Explorer address bar, in a cmd/PowerShell or in Run (Windows logo+ R) :
ms-settings:multitasking

Then click Anchor windows to display the docking options: - When docking a window, show what I can dock next to: Offers to choose other windows to complete the selected fit scheme.
- Show anchor layouts when I hover over the maximise a window button : Displays fit schemes.
- Show the anchor layouts the application is part of when I hover over the taskbar buttons : Treats a layout as a separate group, allowing you to return to that view. - When I drag a window, allow me to dock it without dragging all the way to the edge of the screen : The docking option is available before the mouse reaches the edge of the screen.
- When I anchor a window, automatically adjust to fill the available space : The window adjusts to the available space.
- When I resize a docked window, simultaneously resize any adjacent docked window : Automatically resizes windows affected by resizing a window.
